Family Service Committees

Building Supervision

Fulfill service hours weekdays between 8:30am and 2:30pm during the CET season. During the final week of CET, there are some evening hours available. Committee members monitor the parking lot during drop off, welcome students, monitor the main entrance to CET (check-in late students, visitors, and volunteers), monitor hallways during class transitions, help the office staff as needed, and manage the daily snack stand. During the final week, volunteers monitor the door prior to evening shows to allow entrance for students and staff.

Community Runners

This committee’s time requirements are flexible and can often be done at the volunteer’s discretion. There are two Saturday Market shifts available as well. The Community Runners Committee supports CET by handling a variety of essential errands. Volunteers may assist with tasks such as purchasing show concessions at Costco, returning cans to Bottle Drop, distributing show posters to local businesses and buying snacks for students to purchase during the day. Members of this committee should have reliable transportation and be comfortable waiting a few days for reimbursement. Having a Costco membership is helpful but not required. In addition, some committee members will help staff an informational table at the Saturday Market for two Saturdays during the summer.

Costumes

All committee work occurs during the CET season, with most of the work being completed during work nights at CET in the evenings (Tuesday and Thursday), at CET during CET hours, and during performances. Most hours will be completed during weeks 1-4, with backstage and laundry shifts available the last week. Some shifts coincide with performances. This committee assists the Costume Director and staff to create costumes for CET productions. Committee members sew, craft, organize, and wash the costumes used by CET students in the various productions, under the direction of costuming staff members. Sewing skills are appreciated, but not required to contribute to this committee. Additionally, 1-2 committee members are needed at each performance to help backstage.

Equipment Moving/Storage

Some of this committee’s work happens the few days before CET starts, and most of the work occurs during the days and evenings of performance week. This committee helps move and set up equipment and sets. Members of this committee provide and drive a large vehicle for moving equipment (primarily for the traveling shows) and/or load and move equipment with those who have the vehicles. This committee is also responsible for Move-in Day and “strikes” each performance (takes apart the set after the show runs). The final strike is after the musical performance, the last day of CET.

Makeup and Hair

This committee does all of its work during the final week of the CET season, when the performances are in full swing. Committee members must be available at least 2 hours before show time to help prepare the actors. Day and evening shifts are available;  however, some daytime availability may be necessary to fulfill all service hours on this committee. Shifts coincide with dress rehearsals and performances. Shifts are also available during pick up and drop off times. This committee helps the Makeup Director(s) with makeup and hairstyling for the actors. Committee members apply makeup and style hair for dress rehearsals and performances. No previous makeup experience is necessary (we will train you!), but experience with hair (especially French braiding) is helpful. Training is required for first-year committee members.

House Managers and Concessions

Day and evening shifts available during the CET season, primarily during the last two weeks when performances are in full swing. Shifts may coincide with performances. Must be available to report to the performance 30-60 minutes prior and stay until the performance is over. This committee manages all the CET performances during the season (except Fine Arts Night). Members of this committee handle ticket sales at the door, including Will Call, and help pass out programs. They set up and sell concessions and other CET items at performances.

Photography

Work for this committee occurs during the daytime and evenings while CET is in session, particularly during the last weeks of the season when performances are in full swing. Shifts generally coincide with performances. Members of this committee must have some basic photography skills and have their own DSLR/mirrorless camera with telephoto lens (not just a smartphone). Committee members take headshots of CET students at the start of the program; coordinate and take cast photos, shoot and edit photographs of productions, classes, and events throughout the season, and put together the slideshow for Fine Arts Night. It is helpful to be computer savvy and have a working knowledge of Google Photos.

Props and Set Construction

All committee work occurs during the CET season (mostly in the first three weeks), with most of the work being completed during work nights at CET in the evenings (usually Tuesday and Thursday). This committee helps the Tech Director and tech staff members create sets and find, build, or acquire all the props needed for each show. Carpentry, painting, assembly, and art skills are helpful, but not necessary.
